New England hockey drama ‘Shattered Ice’ to show at Worcester Palladium on Nov. 12

Since debuting at the start of the year, “Shattered Ice" has been shown all across the country. The drama focused on the fictional New England high school hockey team, the Nehoiden Black Bears, was written by Needham High School alumnus Jake Miskin. In May, the film made its East Coast debut at the Berkshire International Film Festival. Since then, the movie has been shown at festivals in Los Angeles and Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Next week, on Wednesday Nov. 12, “Shattered Ice” will make its central Mass. debut at the Worcester Palladium at 7 p.m. The showing will be a part of the film’s Social Impact Campaign and is in partnership with the Worcester Railers, Rucker Investments, and Reliant Foundation. “This is our first time entering the film space, but the message resonated deeply with our team,” CFO of Rucker Investments Jennifer Barys said in a statement. “The connection to hockey made it feel like a perfect fit for us. Partnering with a passionate writer and producer like Jake and helping bring this film to life has been incredibly meaningful. “We’re so impressed by the traction it’s already gained and the numerous recognitions it has earned across the film festival circuit.” After the showing, there will be a panel discussing the film and the need for conversations surrounding mental health. The story focuses on high school students and their local community, after one student dies by suicide. Miskin, writing his first feature film, drew from his own experiences in the process. “Shattered Ice is inspired by my own high school experience at Needham High School in Massachusetts between 2004-2009, where we lost multiple students to suicide,” Miskin wrote on the Shattered Ice website. “This fictional story is an amalgamation of experiences and events that took place while I was in high school, with a few creative liberties taken. We lost friends, we picked each other up, and we went to a hell of a lot of high school hockey games.”
