New Day Centre Brings Hope for People with Severe Mental Health Problems in Torrevieja

A new day centre dedicated to supporting people with serious mental health problems has officially opened in Torrevieja, thanks to a €1.35 million investment shared between the Valencian Regional Government, Torrevieja City Council, and the ADIEM Foundation. The “Torrenova” Day Centre, located on Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas next to the existing CRIS (Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration), opened its doors on October 20th. It can now provide daily care and support for up to 30 people, as well as creating around a dozen new jobs for local professionals. The centre operates from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and even offers a lunch service. It sits on land donated by the City Council under a 75-year concession, ensuring the facility will serve the community for generations to come. Funding for the project was shared between the regional government (€750,000), Torrevieja City Council (€437,000), and the ADIEM Foundation (€163,000). “A Collective Effort for the Well-Being of Our Community” Mayor Eduardo Dolón visited the new centre this week, joined by Councillor for NGOs and Volunteering Trudy Páez, Councillor for Social Welfare Óscar Urtasun, ADIEM Managing Director Paco Canales, and centre director Ana María Martín. Dolón described the project as “a perfect example of what can be achieved through public–private collaboration,” adding: “This centre is not just important for Torrevieja, but for the whole Vega Baja region. It’s the result of teamwork, and the real reward is seeing the improved care and well-being of the 30 people already receiving support here.” He also praised the ADIEM Foundation and its staff for their dedication, pointing out that the new facility complements the existing CRIS centre, which currently supports 73 people. Built in Record Time ADIEM’s Managing Director Paco Canales highlighted the City Council’s strong commitment to improving mental health care, noting that the Torrenova centre was designed, built, and opened in under ten months.“It’s already full,” he said proudly. “This is the first centre of its kind in the entire Vega Baja area, and it shows just how needed these services are.” Looking to the Future Mayor Dolón also announced that construction will begin in 2026 on a new residential facility for people who need 24-hour support. The new residence will be built on council-owned land just behind the day centre, with room for seven residents, and could open as early as 2027. “This project is another step forward in caring for the most vulnerable members of our community,” Dolón said.
