Navin Meighbarran wins ‘B’ Class Draughts Oct 29, 2025 Sports Navin Meighbarran has secured a promotion to the A class in the National Draughts Championship, while other top finishers have their chances in the A class this Sunday, with presentations for both B and A classes scheduled for Sunday. It was excitement throughout the day when the first leg in the Annual National Draughts Championship commenced last Sunday at the Transport Sports Club Pavilion. The game saw Transport Club player, Navin Meighbarran, who was always consistent amongst other competitors in previous competitions, winning the B class event for two consecutive years, earning him a promotion as a National A class player. He ended with 20 points the same as Aubrey Rowe. However, by virtue that Meighbarran defeated Rowe in the earlier rounds, he was automatically given the first place. Rowe earned the second spot. Rowe is a veteran player who has been in the game since the eighties and always a consistent player in this division, however he is still to meet the criteria set by the Draughts Association for promotion. Dr. Ivor Burnett English, President of Transport club, ended with 15 points gaining him the third position. English had a blistering start taking maximum points in his first three games and was ahead on points but faltered in the other three rounds. All three top finishers would be given a chance in the ‘A’ class this Sunday. In the second leg slated for this upcoming Sunday, Linden player Floyd Cumberbatch was the winner in this event last year. Cumberbatch is set to defend his title against tough challenges like Jiaram, Steve Bacchus and Devanand Persaud from Tuschen East Bank Essequibo. All A class players are invited to participate in the tournament. Please note that B class players would not be allowed to enter except those that are given permission. Starting time 10.30 am sharp. Please note that presentations for both the B and A class would be held this Sunday. The final leg is billed for November 16th 2025. Draughts, Navin Meighbarran, Transport Sports Club Pavilion
