Halloween is rapidly approaching, and two Chicago suburbs have been named among the safest places for trick-or-treaters in the United States. According to an analysis from SafeHome.org, a company specializing in home security technology, Naperville is the second-safest city in the United States for kids going trick-or-treating this Halloween. Suburban Aurora very nearly cracked the top-10, but ultimately finished 11th in the ranking, according to the website. According to the website, safety metrics were analyzed to help come up with the rankings, including crime rates, pedestrian fatality rates, the number of registered sex offenders, and the number of law enforcement officers per 10,000 residents. Joliet also made the top-25, finishing in the 25th spot. The safest community in the U.S. for trick-or-treaters was Yonkers, New York, followed by Naperville, New York City, Gilbert, Arizona and Frisco, Texas. Naperville does not have set trick-or-treating times, but they do recommend that parents bring their children out during the late afternoon and early evening. Local In Aurora, kids can go trick-or-treating between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Those same hours will be in effect for Joliet, according to officials.
