By Lucy Mawufemor Kpeglo The 2025 Annual Muslim Ladies Conference (AMLAC), organized by the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the Ghana Muslim Students’ Association (GMSA), brought together Muslim women from across the Ashanti Region to discuss faith, empowerment, and leadership in modern society. Held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Law Auditorium of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the event was themed “Empowered by Faith: The Role of the Muslimah in Modern Society.” The conference featured several keynote speakers, including Hon. Nasira Afrah Gyekye, Member of Parliament for the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency and philanthropist; Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Hajia Shamima Muslim; Ashanti Regional GES Administrator Hajia Fatima Cynthia Lawontong; CEO of the Students Loan Trust Fund, Dr. Saajida Shiraz; and Mr. Alex Sparfford Adams. Each speaker delivered messages that highlighted the importance of faith, education, and resilience in the lives of Muslim women. Speaking at the event, Hajia Fatima Cynthia Lawontong, Administrator for the Ashanti Regional Ghana Education Service (GES), encouraged students to remain focused and committed to their studies, urging them to take their studies seriously to achieve higher goals. “Don’t let anything distract you from whatever that you have to do,” she advised. She added that Muslim ladies should put Allah first in all they do and remain prayerful while working hard to overcome challenges in education. “Your study shouldn’t be only on academics but also to build your faith. Put Allah first in all that you do.” Dr. Saajida Shiraz, CEO of the Students Loan Trust Fund, also encouraged young women to stay focused and make wise decisions about their future. “Stay focused don’t be distracted and when you are old enough to marry, marry well,” she said. Hon. Nasira Afrah Gyekye, Member of Parliament for the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency, sharing her personal experience, reminded participants that failure is part of success. “Every successful person you admire has failed more than you had ever imagine,” she stated, using her story to inspire young women to persevere. The conference, organized by the Ladies Wing of the Ashanti GMSA, featured interactive discussions, personal reflections, and networking among students and professionals. Speakers emphasized that education, entrepreneurship, and faith are key tools for empowerment and leadership in society. Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and connect. “Today’s discussions reminded me that being a Muslim woman is not a limitation, it’s an identity that carries power and purpose,” one participant shared. The 2025 AMLAC concluded with a strong call to action for Muslim women to strengthen their faith, support one another, and continue breaking barriers in education, leadership, and community service.
