Mum names daughter after historical disaster and people can't believe it's real

People have been left stunned after discovering what a new mum has named her daughter , with many refusing to believe it's genuine. Eager to celebrate her little one's upcoming arrival, the mum is hosting a baby shower with her nearest and dearest, where she proudly revealed her daughter's name. Nevertheless, the invitation has since been posted on social media - and users can't fathom the moniker she has chosen. The invitation states: "Please join us for a baby shower. Join us to celebrate the upcoming arrival of a little bundle of joy. In hour of Chernobyl Hope. We can't wait to celebrate together." In April 1986, the number four reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near Pripyat in Ukraine , exploded, leading to the deaths of 31 people in the immediate aftermath - some from the blast and others from acute radiation sickness. It is estimated that around 4,000 additional cancer deaths may result over time due to radiation exposure. Regarded as the worst nuclear power plant accident in history in terms of cost and casualties, around 600,000 people were exposed and have been affected in various ways. Not only this, but the radiation has contaminated the environment - leaving persistent radioactive material in the soil and water, and therefore impacting animals and wildlife. In disbelief, a Reddit user said: "I'm speechless." Another user added: "I'm sure everyone at the celebration will be radiant." A third user said: "Hope as the middle name is really just adding insult to injury." One more user added: "I'm secretly hoping the parents are like, survivors of Chernobyl and were told they probably wouldn't be able to have kids... like... oh wow, yikes." Another user added: "At least it's spelled right.." A final user said: "Now, Chernobyl is a Russian word; maybe it translates into "beautiful flower" or "radiant memory" or something. "You know how place names sometimes get negative associations even when they're named after positive things. Hang on, let me look me up and see what it really means... Oh.. Oh dear." It follows after a woman was ridiculed for naming her daughter after a fungal infection. The 20-year-old revealed how he suggested the moniker to his sister, 27, as a prank - but has been left appalled to discover she genuinely loves the sound of it and plans to use it for her newborn. The biology student went on to reveal how his sister works as a nurse - so he devised a list of 'medical' girls' names as a wind-up. He said: "All the names were medications, infections, unpleasant animals, etcetera, that all sound like lovely girls' names out of context. "Some of them were a little bit obscure, sure, but I included some obvious ones like 'Viagra' and 'Hernia' for good measure." Just a fortnight later, his sister and her husband joyfully announced they'd finally decided on a name for their bundle of joy – Malassezia. Malassezia is a type of fungi that colonise on the surface layers of the skin. The man said: "I pointed it out to her, and she said that yes, she knew what it meant, and she knew my list was intended to be a joke, but she just really liked the way it sounded."
