MP for Chamarajanagar Sunil Bose has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to rectify defects in ‘unscientific’ road dividers and give priority to road safety on highways being developed across the district. Presiding over the District Development Coordination and Monitoring (DISHA) Committee meeting at the zilla panchayat on Monday, Mr. Bose said that good roads have been constructed for the district’s development and officials must inspect the sites and rectify faults to ensure smooth vehicular movement. The MP pointed out that road dividers, road humps, and bridges between Santemarahalli and Sathyagala have been constructed in an unscientific manner, resulting in accidents and loss of lives. Despite repeated instructions to build junctions at Santemarahalli, Sathyagala, Naripur, Doddayarpet, and Somwarpet Circle, officials have failed to take up road safety measures or install proper signboards. “Such delays will not be tolerated,” he warned. Pointing out the drinking-water crisis in the Hanur taluk and in some forest-border villages due to depletion in groundwater, Mr. Bose directed officials to address the same. On the recent water shortage at Yelandur Hospital that disrupted dialysis services, he instructed the Health Department to prevent such lapses and ensure night-time availability of doctors at rural health centres. Progress under various departments, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Food, Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, MGNREGA, Education, Swachh Bharat Mission, Rural Development, Mines and Geology, and CESC was reviewed during the meeting.
