Mona Singh has opened up about the failure of her 2022 movie, Laal Singh Chaddha. In a recent interview, the actress recalled crying a lot after the film did not receive the expected response from the audience and revealed what happened when she visited Aamir Khan’s house after the film’s debacle. “We did meet on the day of the release. Advait (Chandan, Director) was there, we had gone to Aamir’s house. And I was crying, of course, I always begin to weep in such moments. And it’s for the good only, as it loosens up the heart, and cleanses your mind with all the worries. So I cried, and he told me ‘This is what the movie business is about, you get just one Friday to prove yourself.’ I was really like this is not done. That one Friday is the only day when people decide whether it’s good and bad, that’s so much pressure for anyone to take. That’s why I enjoy OTT now, people can watch your stuff whenever you want,” she told SCREEN. Mona, however, shared that even though the film did not find its audience in theatres, it was widely loved when it was later released on the OTT platform, Netflix. “When it released digitally, people were suddenly so full of love and warmth. And understood what the values the film was talking about and just the simplicity it had. So I think later it got its due and life,” she added. Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha was one of the most-awaited movies but when it finally hit theatres in August 2022, it left the audience disappointed. The film failed to leave a mark at the box office and earned hardly Rs 60 crore at the Indian box office. Previously, Kareena Kapoor also recalled meeting Aamir Khan for the first time after the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha when she shared that the actor looked very apologetic. “Aamir and I were at the inauguration of NMACC (Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre). That’s when we first met after (Laal Singh Chaddha). Well, I saw his face, and I could see how he was looking at me, apologetic and sad, at the same time. Together, we’ve delivered big films – 3 Idiots (2009) and Talaash (2012). But you know what? It doesn’t matter. I wrote a long letter (on WhatsApp) to both Aamir and the director (Advait Chandan), telling them that our relationships and talent don’t depend on the outcome of a film,” Bebo told Mid-Day in October 2023.
