Modernisation of three stations, falling under the limits of the Tiruchi Railway Division, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is nearing completion, while the works are in different stages in few other stations. The Gati Shakti Unit of Tiruchi Railway has been entrusted with the task of giving a complete makeover to the identified stations in the division. The host of works taken up at the chosen stations under the ABSS include improvements to circulating and parking area, construction of a new portico and platform shelters, improvements to platform surface, concourse and booking offices, landscaping, installation of signage boards, facade improvements besides provision of adequate lighting. Railway sources said the modernisation works at Ariyalur, Tiruvarur and Vellore Cantonment stations were nearing completion. The ongoing improvement works at Villupuram, Thanjavur and Mayiladuthurai stations are expected to be completed by this year-end. The allocation of funds to the identified stations under the ABSS varies. A sum of ₹12.3 crore was allocated for Thanjavur, ₹12.5 crore for Mayiladuthurai, ₹12.2 crore for Villupuram, ₹8.69 crore for Tiruvarur, ₹6.7 crore for Vellore Cantonment and ₹5.8 crore for Ariyalur. The extent of works completed at Ariyalur station was nearly 98%, while it was 97% and 92% in respect of Vellore Cantonment and Tiruvarur stations respectively, the sources further said. A total number of 15 stations in Tiruchi division were identified under the scheme. The fully revamped stations under the scheme are Srirangam, Polur, Tiruvannamalai, Chidambaram, Mannargudi and Vriddhachalam.
