Doha, October 22 (QNA) - The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in cooperation with Qatar Development Bank (QDB), organized an awareness workshop on how to preserve and protect intellectual property rights. The workshop was attended by a number of entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In a statement on Wednesday, the MoCI said that this workshop is part of its efforts to strengthen the intellectual property protection system and raise awareness of its importance in supporting the innovation and entrepreneurship environment, contributing to the development of a competitive and sustainable private sector. The workshop aimed to empower entrepreneurs and owners of SMEs to understand their intellectual property rights and clarify legal and regulatory protection mechanisms, thus contributing to the creation of a safe business environment that encourages innovation. The workshop addressed several key topics, especially defining the concept of intellectual property according to approved regulations, the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the business environment, and reviewing areas of intellectual property, including trademarks, patents, copyright, and related rights, along with procedures for registering them with the MoCI, and methods for protecting rights in cases of infringement or violation. It also discussed QDB's programs and legal services supporting startups, including the trademark registration grant, which helps companies register their intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights. It also highlighted the success stories of several companies that have benefited from this service in registering their trademarks. The workshop concluded with an open discussion session during which specialists answered participants' questions, emphasizing the role of intellectual property protection in attracting investment, encouraging innovation, and promoting sustainable growth.
