The 2025 World Series ended with the Los Angeles Dodgers clinching the series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Almost 51 million people tuned in worldwide to watch the Dodgers win for the second time in a row. With that over, it’s time to award the players for their hard work. And to kick things off, MLB, on Friday, unveiled a new offseason event that will take the game and many of its stars off the diamond and onto the fairways. The inaugural Capital One MLB Open, a three-day golf tournament featuring current and former big-league players, is scheduled for Nov. 12–14 at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. A big name joining the course is Hall of Famer John Smoltz. “Shadow Creek used to be a place I played all the time. I haven’t been there since my hole-in-one on a par-four, number 11,” Smoltz said to MLB Network jokingly. “Team Atlanta, we’re out for the Yankees for all those losses we had in the World Series. We’re out for the Blue Jays. Sorry about that, Joe Carter and Ernie Clement. But this is business.” MLB said the field will include roughly 60 participants representing all 30 clubs, mixing veterans and rookies in a televised competition that benefits charitable causes. Smoltz will be partnering up with Michael Harris, center fielder for the Atlanta Braves. Smoltz wants to bring in his own swing coach and it’s Mark DeRosa. Dodgers pitcher Mookie Betts will oversee the tournament as the commentator. The weekend opens with a Pro-Am pairing MLB stars with amateur players, followed by a two-day tournament using a team gross best-ball format and a “unique scoring system” designed to keep the leaderboard fluid and broadcast-friendly.
