Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs, officially declared open the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) 2026 CARIFTA Training Camp yesterday at the National Racquet Centre, signaling a new era of structured preparation for the nation’s junior athletes. The initiative marks a historic first for the AAG, as it introduces a dedicated training camp tailored to developing young athletes ahead of the CARIFTA Games. The camp aims to sharpen technical skills, enhance physical conditioning, and build the mental toughness required for regional and international competition. In her opening remarks, AAG President Amanda Hermonstine described the camp as a “new chapter” for the association and the sport in Guyana. “This training camp represents a new chapter for the AAG and our athletes,” she stated. “It’s an opportunity for our young talents to develop their skills, gain invaluable experience, and prepare for the prestigious CARIFTA Games”.
