Five more people are currently receiving intensive care following the stampede at the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Early reports had indicated that six potential recruits had died in the incident. However, according to an updated report by channelonenewsonline.com, five additional recruits are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the 37 Military Hospital, while 12 others remain in critical condition. The report also stated that the mortal remains of the deceased have been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue. In a statement confirming the earlier report of six deaths, the Ghana Armed Forces stated that the stampede occurred as some applicants rushed to the stadium gates before the start of the screening. The army indicated that the six deceased were applicants, adding that a number of others had also been injured. BREAKING: Six reported dead over stampede during military recruitment exercise “Preliminary investigations indicate that the stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed into the gates ahead of the scheduled screening at about 0620 hours. “The unfortunate incident led to the death of six potential recruits and many others being injured. The injured are currently receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital. The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilise affected individuals,” part of the statement read. The GAF also stated that efforts are being made to inform the families of the victims. “Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to notify the families of the deceased. The Ghana Armed Forces extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a swift recovery to those injured. Further updates will be communicated,” the statement concluded.
