Michael Irvin Blasts Cowboys Defense After Brutal Loss to Broncos

Another disappointing effort came from the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8, as the team suffered an embarrassing loss to the Denver Broncos. The team’s latest outing was a 44-24 defeat in which Dak Prescott threw for 188 yards and two interceptions. Prescott also got sacked twice for a loss of 15 yards, with the Cowboys getting two of their touchdowns from Javonte Williams and one from Jalen Tolbert. However, Tolbert’s TD reception came courtesy of backup quarterback Joe Milton III, who came in for four attempts in the devastating loss in Denver. The team’s defense recorded an interception from Bo Nix, but he also threw for 247 yards and four touchdown passes in the Broncos’ sixth win of the season. Additionally, running back J.K. Dobbins had 111 rushing yards, and RJ Harvey added 46 rushing yards and a touchdown. Following the terrible performance, he slammed the defensive effort. “This CAN NOT be an @NFL defense that’s wearing the @dallascowboys helmets !!!!!!” he wrote on his official X as the game was decided. Lol Jerry sent our best defensive player off, then didn’t pick one up in free agency, now we a soup sandwich on defense lmao,” one X commenter said. Another commenter wrote on X, “Jim Nantz and Tony Romo blamed the defensive woes on the depleted secondary, but the Cowboys’ defense lacked push up front and was manhandled all game.” “This team will never go deep until the Jones family embraces the professional side of team management,” another commenter said. This CAN NOT be an @NFL defense that’s wearing the @dallascowboys helmets !!!!!!— Michael Irvin (@michaelirvin88) October 26, 2025 The latest loss dropped Dallas’ overall record to 3-4-1 on the season, with a 1-4 mark in the NFC East. That’s still good for second overall, but they’re just barely above the struggling Washington Commanders. Offensively, Dallas has been tremendous, averaging 384.1 total yards per game, good for second in the NFL. They’re first overall in passing yards with 263.8 per game. But the defense is a glaring issue, especially after Micah Parsons left for the Green Bay Packers. As of this writing, Dallas ranks second-worst in yards allowed with 404.5 per game. They’re also second-worst in points allowed, giving up 31.3 per game. Only the Cincinnati Bengals are worse. According to one X post, the Cowboys may have given up 7.5 yards per play to the Broncos in today’s game, the most Denver had per play since 2016. However, these current defensive issues might be too much to overcome if the team wants to make a serious postseason run.
