Miami Dolphins make decision on future of head coach Mike McDaniel after latest humiliating NFL loss

Amidst a disastrous 1-6 start to the season, the Miami Dolphins are not expected to make any changes to their current structure or team. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the team is going to stay the course with head coach Mike McDaniel. Calls for his firing have increased following Sunday's demoralizing 31-6 loss to the lowly Cleveland Browns. Speaking to NFL Network's 'Good Morning Football', Rapoport said, 'They really need to figure out who they are and really find out what they are made of. The problem is the record's rough and the spotlight is very firmly on the Miami Dolphins right now. There's been several reasons why.' Among the reasons included high-profile losses, like the Browns defeat and a close loss to the Carolina Panthers. Additionally, starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa called out some of his teammates for arriving late to team activities - only to walk those comments back. 'My understanding, [it's] early on in the season for the Dolphins and for Mike McDaniel,' Rapoport said. 'His owner, Stephen Ross, likes him and believes in him, has extended him in the past, and wants to go forward with Mike McDaniel.' Rapoport added: 'The only thing that would change it is if 1: fans suddenly stopped showing up to the stadium, which could happen for a really bad team in a lost season, or 2: if the players stopped playing for him.' Following the game, McDaniel claimed responsibility for the poor result and said his team will be analyzing ways to improve. 'A game like this, I think we didn't see it coming,' McDaniel said. 'We're professionals who need to do our job better. You can't even go on to beating your opponent if you beat yourselves. 'When it happens, you absolutely, with 100% certainty, have to evaluate everything. No person or no player or no coach has their hands clean -- starting with me.' When he was asked about his future, McDaniel shot down speculation that he might be out the door and re-affirmed his commitment to the team. 'You do hard truths in this league and you are always ultimately held accountable for your performance,' McDaniel admitted. 'But I find it very offensive to all parties involved if I'm thinking about having a job. As long as I'm the coach of the Miami Dolphins, they will get everything from me.' The Dolphins will look to rebound this week when the travel to take on the Atlanta Falcons.
