The New York Mets failed to make the playoffs, and now Pete Alonso is a free agent again. He failed to find a long-term deal last offseason, but figures to find one now. Axisa also predicted that Bregman would leave for the Mets this offseason, so the Red Sox will need someone to replace his offensive production. Alonso has spent his entire career with the Mets and is a five-time All-Star. Losing him would be a huge blow to the Mets. David Stearns is not going to overspend on an aging power bat. Additionally, he noted his desire to improve the Mets’ defense, and Alonso is not an elite defender at first base.
