Harmanpreet Kaur-led India women's cricket team ended the country's 47-year wait by winning its maiden World Cup title. India, who made their World Cup debut in 1978, had made it to two finals before the 2025 WC. They suffered heartbreak in both finals. Playing their first ODI WC under Harmanpreet, the Women in Blue successfully defended a target of 299 to end the title drought. Amol Muzumdar coached the team to the title win. He took over the charge in 2023 and has excelled in his role thus far. Amol never played for India but is considered a domestic cricket legend. He finished his career with more than 10,000 runs and is considered one of the greatest batsmen to have played the game. Here we know more about him - Amol Muzumdar had a legendary career for Mumbai in domestic cricket. The right-handed batsman created history on his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai and slammed a double-century. Muzumdar, who made his debut in the 1993/94 season, played a 260-run knock on his debut. Muzumdar made it to the India A cricket team but never earned an India call-up. He finished his first-class career with a mammoth 11167 runs in 171 matches. Batting with an average of 48.13, Muzumdar hit 30 centuries and 60 half-centuries. Muzumdar also captained the Mumbai cricket team. It was in 2006 that Amol realised that he might not get an India call-up. "I came to know in 2006 that season. I led Mumbai to Ranji Trophy victory and then led West Zone to Duleep Trophy victory. I also led Mumbai to the one-day championship (Vijay Hazare Trophy). Literally, I won everything that year as a captain domestically. But I was still not picked for India A," he told Sportzwiki in 2017. "So, that gave me a message that they are looking beyond me. It was very hard to conceive the fact that I am not an India material anymore. But till then I was very hopeful that I will play for India one day. But I think in 2006 was when I realised that it’s not happening. It was very hard that I won’t be selected, no matter what I do. But I had to keep myself motivated, I had to keep myself away from the things that could enter your mind at that time and I just kept away from all those things."
