Maruti Suzuki India has achieved a landmark moment by surpassing 3 crore cumulative car sales in the domestic market. The company revealed that it took 28 years and 2 months to sell its first crore vehicles, followed by the next crore in just 7 years and 5 months. The latest one crore sales came even faster, in a record 6 years and 4 months. Leading this success story is the ever-popular Maruti Alto, which has emerged as the company’s top-selling model with over 47 lakh units sold so far. It’s followed by the Wagon R with approximately 34 lakh units and the Swift with more than 32 lakh units. Popular compact SUVs like the Brezza and the newer Fronx have also found a place among Maruti’s top ten bestsellers. Over the decades, the company has become synonymous with affordable mobility in India and now offers more than 170 variants across 19 different models. Commenting on the achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said the milestone fills him with “humility and gratitude.” “When I look at the length and breadth of India and think that 3 crore customers have placed their trust in Maruti Suzuki to realise their dream of mobility, it fills me with humility and gratitude,” he said. Takeuchi also highlighted India’s low car ownership levels, about 33 vehicles per 1,000 people, as a sign of continued growth potential.
