Marine accused of kidnapping girl with intent to sexually assault

An active-duty United States Marine is accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old girl from northwestern Indiana with the intent of sexually assaulting her, the FBI said. William Richard Roy — who was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina — traveled all the way to Chicago on October 24 and met the alleged preteen victim at a park in Hammond, the FBI said in a statement. The pair then took an Uber to a nearby hotel, where they spent the night before hopping a Greyhound bus to Durham the next morning. The FBI launched its investigation into the matter the following day on Saturday, the same day the girl was reported missing by her grandmother. Roy was arrested on Sunday, shortly after his Greyhound bus arrived in Durham and the girl was “safely recovered,” the agency said. Roy faces three charges in connection with the incident, including enticement of a minor to travel for illicit sexual activity, transportation of a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity, and interstate travel with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor. Few other details were provide, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
