Mangaluru: Indian Railways has revised the schedule of the Mangaluru–Madgaon Vande Bharat Express following the introduction of the Non-Monsoon Train Timetable, which came into effect on October 21. The service is operated and maintained by the Southern Railway (SR) zone and runs via the Konkan Railway route. Non-Monsoon timetable implemented Trains operating on the Konkan Railway network follow two separate timetables — the Monsoon and Non-Monsoon schedules. During the Southwest Monsoon season, train speeds are restricted for safety due to heavy rainfall and track conditions. With the onset of the dry season, the Non-Monsoon Timetable allows faster operations and reduced travel times. Distance and duration The Madgaon–Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express, operating under train numbers 20645/20646, covers a total distance of 437 km in approximately 4 hours and 35 minutes, offering passengers a faster and more comfortable journey along the scenic western coastline. Stops and route details The train halts at only two intermediate stations — Karwar and Udupi — between Madgaon and Mangaluru, maintaining the express nature of the service while ensuring regional connectivity. Revised timings As per the new schedule, train number 20646 will depart from Mangaluru Central at 08:30 hrs and arrive at Madgaon Junction at 13:10 hrs. On the return leg, train number 20645 will depart from Madgaon at 18:10 hrs and reach Mangaluru Central at 22:45 hrs. Frequency and service details The Mangaluru–Madgaon Vande Bharat Express operates six days a week, with Thursday being its weekly maintenance holiday. The service was originally flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30, 2023, and commenced commercial operations on January 1, 2024. Ticket pricing The train offers two classes of travel — AC Chair Car and Executive Chair Car. The ticket fare for AC Chair Car between Mangaluru and Madgaon is ₹1,230, while the Executive Chair Car costs ₹2,220. Passenger convenience The revised schedule is expected to enhance connectivity between Karnataka and Goa by providing improved timings for business travellers, tourists, and daily commuters. Indian Railways has urged passengers to check the updated timings before travel to avoid inconvenience.
