Schools in various regions have been ordered to remain closed on account of Chhath Puja—a festival that is predominantly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, some parts of Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal. For the unversed, Chhath Puja is an ancient Hindu festival devoted to the Surya God (Sun God) as well as his Chhathi Maiya. Every year, a four-day celebration is held to express gratitude for life, health, and prosperity. According to the latest announcement by the Chief Minister (CM), Rekha Gupta, all schools in Delhi will observe a holiday on October 27 in view of Chhath Puja. On this occasion, outstation students usually travel back to their homes for the auspicious occasion, while the locals enjoy the holiday in their own way. When Will Bihar Schools Reopen After Chhath? Since Chhath Puja is the primary festival of Bihar, all schools and colleges have been closed in the state since October 18, 2025. Students get a 12-day break to observe the festival and celebrate it with their loved ones. Therefore, all educational institutions in Bihar will reopen on October 30, 2025. Are UP Schools Closed Due to Chhath Puja? Schools in Uttar Pradesh are likely to remain closed for Chhatth Puja. However, an official notification from the authorities is yet to arrive.
