Mandy Moore is following in Taylor Swift‘s footsteps while entering her NFL era. During the Monday, November 3, episode of Today With Jenna & Friends, Moore, 41, shared some details about teaming up with This Is Us’ Dan Fogelman on a new football-themed project. “You guys, I feel like Taylor Swift. I had to learn all about the NFL,” Moore teased. “I knew nothing about the NFL.” Moore revealed that the still-untitled Hulu series started filming about two weeks prior. “It’s centered around the NFL. I play the daughter of the owner of an NFL team,” she added. “So I get to be sort of a boss.” When Jenna Bush Hager asked whether Moore connected with Jerry Jones‘ daughter, Charlotte Jones — who is executive vice president and chief brand officer of the Dallas Cowboys — the actress said yes and hinted at the inspiration for her character. “[I’m playing] someone who’s being primed to potentially take over for Dad when he steps down,” Moore continued. Like Moore, Swift, 35, has dived headfirst into the football world. She was first spotted at a Kansas City Chiefs game in September 2023 amid her romance with Travis Kelce and has been candid about her lack of sports knowledge. “Football is awesome, it turns out,” she joked in her 2023 Time Magazine Person of the Year profile, the first time she spoke at length about dating Kelce, 36. “I’ve been missing out my whole life.” Earlier this year, Swift made her debut on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, where she shared insight into conversations the pair had on their first date. “I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field, across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing on the other five feet in front of him on the field,” Swift recalled in August. “I now know what an insane question that was. He was like, ‘Actually, I’m on the offense and my brother’s on the offense, and I’m only on the field at the same time as the defense.'” Swift confessed that she “thought everyone was on there at the same time,” but she’s come a long way with her knowledge of the game. “I fell in love with it,” she explained. “I became obsessed with it. I became a person who was running through the halls of my house, screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’ And my friends are like, ‘Who body-snatched you? What do you mean?'” The pop star joked, “I’m not ready to be an analyst right now, but give me 16 months.” The couple announced their engagement later that month after two years of dating, and Swift has continued to cheer for her future husband throughout the NFL season. As for Moore, she’s scooped up some all-star teammates of her own for Fogelman’s football project, which hits Hulu next year. According to Variety, William H. Macy will star as the team owner, with Christopher Meloni playing the head coach.
