November on HBO Max sees the premiere of one of the streaming service’s most highly anticipated new shows in the comedy “I Love LA,” along with the latest take on the classic novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” in the French period drama series “The Seduction.” On the documentary front, HBO’s long history as a destination for high-quality sports documentaries continues with the docuseries “Alex vs ARod,” looking at the life and career of Alex Rodriguez. November is also a big month for recent theatrical releases heading to HBO Max, including two movies starring Pedro Pascal: Celine Song’s romantic dramedy “Materialists” and Ari Aster’s COVID-era political nightmare “Eddington.” Here’s a look at November’s highlights on HBO Max, plus a full list of all the month’s premieres. New on HBO Max in November 2025: Top picks ‘I Love LA’ Just as “Girls” was often branded the successor to “Sex and the City,” this new comedy series about young women living messy lives in the big city seems positioned to be the next “Girls.” Unlike its two direct predecessors, though, “I Love LA” is clearly not set in New York City, and its showbiz connections bring to mind other popular HBO series like “Entourage.” Creator and star Rachel Sennott is known for her work on acclaimed indie films like “Bottoms” and “Shiva Baby,” and she seems to bring a similar sensibility to “I Love LA,” which follows a group of friends in Los Angeles navigating professional ambitions and personal entanglements while looking stylish. Josh Hutcherson and Odessa A’zion co-star in the show that could make Sennott the next Lena Dunham. Stream on HBO Max from November 2 ‘Alex vs ARod’ The latest from production company Religion of Sports — which has produced documentaries on superstar athletes including Aaron Rodgers, Serena Williams and Tom Brady — this three-episode series looks at the controversial career of baseball legend Alex Rodriguez. The title refers to the clash between Rodriguez’s private and public personas, with his “ARod” nickname representing his confrontational presence on the field. The series features extensive new interviews with Rodriguez himself, and that type of access means that it will probably take a more sympathetic tone toward his suspensions from baseball and admissions of using performance-enhancing drugs. Still, those scandals are central to the series, and both fans and detractors of the New York Yankees icon should find some satisfaction in this portrayal. Stream on HBO Max from November 6 ‘Materialists’ Writer-director Celine Song’s lively, witty romantic dramedy comes to HBO Max on the heels of its successful theatrical release over the summer. Song’s follow-up to her Oscar-nominated debut “Past Lives” (also streaming this month on HBO Max) offers a more humorous and glamorous take on romance, while displaying the same insight and sensitivity. Dakota Johnson stars as a New York City matchmaker who’s torn between two suitors, representing two different visions of her future life. Chris Evans plays her struggling-actor ex-boyfriend, with Pedro Pascal as the wealthy older Wall Street titan who’s currently wooing her. Song makes the central conflict believable and endearing, while also taking on serious issues about power imbalances in modern relationships. Johnson, Evans and Pascal all give movie-star level performances that remain grounded in heartfelt emotion.
