The Chikkamagaluru police on Wednesday arrested a person, who allegedly harassed a woman by allegedly uploading her morphed images on websites. The police took Adithya, the accused, from his residence in Chikkamagaluru. He had been associated with the Congress and was an office-bearer of the party’s youth wing earlier, it is said. The Chikkamagaluru Town Police on Tuesday received a complaint from a woman alleging that Adithya harassed her by uploading images. He allegedly sent objectionable messages and videos to a few women. Based on the complaint, the police registered the case on charges of committing sexual offence (72(2) of BNS), stalking (78 of BNS) and relevant Sections of the Information Technology Act. Chikkamagaluru SP Vikram Amathe said that the police arrested the accused and launched investigation into the case. Before his arrest, a few people visited his house and assaulted him physically, taking exception to his conduct. The video clips of the assault have gone viral on social media.
