Malawian in U.S. Urges President Mutharika to Appoint Namadingo as Minister of Education

A Malawian based in Dayton, Ohio, USA, Alex Tengani Chanthunya, has written an open letter to President Peter Mutharika, proposing that beloved Namadingo be appointed as Malawi’s next Minister of Education. In his letter, Chanthunya said the proposal is not based on politics or personal gain but on his belief in Namadingo’s proven dedication to community service and education development. “Through initiatives such as the Wataka Project, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to community development and education without holding any formal government position,” reads part of the letter. Chanthunya acknowledged the President’s constitutional authority to appoint cabinet ministers, expressing trust that Mutharika will select leaders who can deliver tangible results for Malawians. He also extended an apology to Namadingo for publicly mentioning his name but stressed that his intention stemmed from deep respect and admiration for the artist’s work. Namadingo, known for blending music with philanthropy, recently constructed several school blocks in the Wataka area of Machinga District using his personal funds a move that has earned him praise nationwide.
