A car erupted into flames on the M62 on Wednesday (October 29) causing major delays shortly before midday. Emergency crews were called to the eastbound carriageway of the motorway between J22 for Denshaw and J23 for Huddersfield following reports of a vehicle fire. Two lanes were shut off by Highways officers as the fire service also attended the scene to put out the blaze. The car appeared to be pulling a trailer. The incident caused significant delays with traffic building in the area due to lane closures while emergency crews worked at the scene. National Highways North West said there were delays of over 45 minutes with at least four miles of congestion on the eastbound carriageway at around 11.30am. The incident had later cleared and been moved to the hard shoulder and the carriageway reopened to traffic. --- Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
