Jimmy Thelin believes he is aligned with Lutz Pfannenstiel in the way they want to bring success to Aberdeen . The Dons announced the appointment of their new German sporting director this week, with Pfannenstiel due to take up the role early next month. The Scottish Cup winners have struggled to find any real consistency this season but Thelin believes the appointment of the former St Louis City chief can help the club and his team. Thelin confirmed: “Of course, me and Lutz have spoken some times about how to look going forward and we have some ideas, so I'm looking forward to seeing him when he arrives here. “No, I think like I said before, we are totally aligned in what we want to do. “I think we always need to help each other to achieve our goals and we work in this club and we want to be in the future.” Chairman Dave Cormack is set to return to America over the coming days but Thelin still has his full backing, despite having lost the last two games and with the team sitting second-bottom of the Premiership. He confirmed: “Again, I said it before, we are talking about a lot of things, but we are together and align what we want to achieve. We want the best for Aberdeen Football Club. “We want to perform better than what we're doing right now and my job as a manager with my staff and the players is trying to find how we can create the best team of this group of players we have right now. How can we be more consistent?” Thelin and Aberdeen have always stated this would be a three year plan but the manager accepts there shouldn’t be the drop off that the team, who sit second-bottom, that there has been this season. “Nothing has changed in one way,” the Swede insisted. “When you cycle and you're rebuilding teams, that's why we've put it on three years: what we want to be in the future, what we want to achieve. “Of course, we expect it not to drop as we have done now in the performances. We're hoping for a little bit better results than we've achieved so far. “It's more about the inconsistency in our performance, that it's so up and down.” Thelin has challenged his players to show more maturity on the pitch and to keep a better shape and discipline, especially if they fall behind. He admitted: “That's the thing we need to find a way to keep this tactical discipline and balance on the pitch because sometimes we do really, really stable games against Dundee and St. Mirren, a tough away game. “But then, some days after, we lose the structure of the team so quickly. These kinds of things we keep working with and supporting each other. “My job, of course, is trying to find a way to keep this balance and tactical discipline in these games, especially when you're in this period when there's a little bit more pressure and the result is not coming and these kinds of things. “We were expecting a little bit more stable start of this season than we have right now, but some of the young players we have signed this summer, they're making steps all the time and we have invested in these players and we see a good future for them and also to contribute to the team in the future. “But still, there's no excuses about the performance we have right now.” Thelin wants his team to rise to the challenge and end their poor league run at Kilmarnock, like they did at St Mirren earlier this month. “I think that it's not an easy game and it's also a competitive game,” the former Elfsborg boss warned. “They play in a certain way that we need to manage and that's why we can't. The opponent play exactly to their strengths and what they want and that's what we need to be up for this fight in St. Mirren. “That's why I talk about this 50-50 situation. You don't need to win every situation, but you can't lose them. “We have to find a way to be more competitive inside the game because it doesn't matter the structure and the shape and the system. “If we lose too many 50-50 or one against one, then there's problems.” Emmanuel Gyamfi will miss the Kilmarnock trip, while fellow defender Alfie Dorrington is also a doubt. Thelin added: “Let's see tomorrow for him. Gyamfi is the Larnaca game away at the earliest, so that's the plan for him.”
