Lukas Gage opens up about his viral White Lotus rimming scene and ‘fever dream’ marriage

Lukas Gage has spoken about his time on The White Lotus, and his whirlwind marriage to hairstylist Chris Appleton in a new interview. The Overcompensating star appeared on the Zach Sang Show to promote his memoir, I Wrote This for Attention and discussed the viral scene in HBO’s The White Lotus where his character, Dillon, was rimmed by hotel manager Armond, played by Murray Bartlett. “I didn’t think in the moment, coming up with that scene, it was going to get that attention online,” he said. And when Sang pointed out: “You didn’t need to do that scene. The scene was supposed to be completely different,” the actor said: “Well, not that different. We were going to have sex. It was [still] going to be titillating but I was like, ‘let’s go a bit more shocking’.” Gage also opened up about his brief marriage to hairstylist Chris Appleton. The pair confirmed the relationship in March 2023 after rumours they were dating circulated the month before in the wake of photos they posted online while on holiday together. They got engaged that April and tied the knot 19 days later, in a small ceremony attended by the likes of Kim Kardashian and Shania Twain. Appleton said he was “very much in love with Gage but filed for divorce that November, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The two were said to be enjoying new relationships and their divorce was finalised in June 2024. Asked to reflect on the marriage, Gage said: “It feels a bit like a fever dream. It doesn’t mean there wasn’t love at some point, and there wasn’t some excitement. ‘I just wanted to own it and not feel shame’ “I don’t totally recognise that person when I look back but I don’t recognise who I am every day. I have to acknowledge and accept all these versions of myself. At that time, it felt like it made sense.” Gage also revealed his reason for including in the book reports that he contracted a sexually transmitted disease from swimming in the ocean. “I didn’t think about writing [this] in my bed at one in the morning, making myself laugh, that it would be read by people. I did that to myself,” he said. “There’s also stigma behind mental health and being open about your sex life. I’m like, ‘why is that? Why are we making it so taboo and this thing to be shameful about?’ I just wanted to own it and not feel shame.” You can watch the full interview below. Share your thoughts!
