Luis Enrique Labels Bayern Munich the 'Best Team in Europe' After PSG Loss

Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique snubbed Arsenal and Liverpool as he named the best team in Europe. Enrique infamously led PSG to Champions League glory last season courtesy of a 5-0 thumping of Inter Milan in the final, and the French giants are expected to challenge for the famous trophy again this time around. But they were dealt an early setback in their bid to top the group phase after losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich earlier this week, after a first-half brace from Luis Diaz. The Colombian forward was then sent off on the stroke of the interval for a rash challenge, but the visitors held firm at the Parc des Princes to inflict PSG's first defeat in Europe. As a result, Bayern and Arsenal stood joint-top of the standings, both clubs having won all four of their fixtures so far. While the Bundesliga champions have scored 14 goals, three more than the Gunners, Mikel Arteta's side are yet to concede in the competition, making them the slender favourites according to the bookmakers. Luis Enrique Chooses Bayern Munich Over Arsenal However, speaking after the game, Enrique overlooked Arsenal and chose Bayern as the best team in Europe at the moment. He stated (per The Metro) "At 11 against 11, Bayern were stronger [than us], without a doubt. You play against the best team in Europe, with the best results, and they pressed us at a high level." The former Barcelona and Spain boss also surprisingly failed to mention Liverpool, despite PSG locking horns with them in the Champions League round of 16 last season. On that occasion, the Reds were knocked out on penalties after a 1-0 loss at home in the return leg, despite entering the tie as the heavy favourites to go all the way. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made himself the hero after saving from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones in the shootout, before Desire Doue scored the decisive spot-kick. Liverpool only had themselves to blame after missing many gilt-edged chances across both legs, and they will look to learn from that chastening experience in the same competition this campaign. Vincent Kompany Delighted With Bayern Win Incredibly, Bayern's win was their 16th in a row in all competitions under Vincent Kompany. Joao Neves had halved the deficit in Paris to set up a grandstand second half, but the Bavarians survived a siege to their penalty area to emerge with all three points. Post-match, Kompany admitted the manner of his side's defensive masterclass left him wishing he had been on the field rather than the touchline, telling Sky Sports Austria... "I would have loved to have played in the second half. Defending everything away and always putting pressure on the man. Every situation is dangerous, but as a defender, you’re naturally trained for these moments." Bayern return to Champions League duties against Arsenal at the Emirates on November 26, a game which could decide who tops the table ahead of the knockouts, while PSG welcome Tottenham in their next European match.
