For those of you who know me, you already know I’m a big tattoo fan. (Pretty sure my sleeve gave that away 😉). Whenever something new happens in the tattoo world, I’m all over it. I’ve written about the best tattoo shops in Minnesota and even covered the new permanent makeup place that opened in Rochester. So when I saw this bit of local tattoo news pop up, I had to share. Because in a town that doesn’t usually make headlines, Mazeppa is getting something new, and seriously cool. “Where the hell’s Mazeppa?” - yes, that teeny-tiny town - is getting its very own tattoo shop from a well-known local artist. She dropped the news on social media this week: “💥 Big news, tiny town 💥 Mazeppa has a tattoo shop coming soon!” Instantly, every tattoo-loving Minnesotan within a 50-mile radius perked up. Kelli, who’s spent the last four years tattooing at Autonomy Tattoo in Rochester, is branching out and bringing her art home. Her new shop, North Fork Tattoo, will soon open in Mazeppa, and for her, it’s more than just business. “I’m a Mazeppa native, so it’s special to me to be able to have my own space where I grew up,” she told me. “My grandpa owned a business in Mazeppa for many years and he passed away recently. So this really means a lot.” For now, she’ll be the shop’s sole artist, taking appointments during the week and saving weekends for walk-ins. In her announcement post, she said her heart is “exploding with gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to bring business into my small, little community.” And if you’re wondering when you can check it out, Kelli’s already planning to celebrate in true artist fashion with a Halloween flash event on October 31 from 3 to 7pm. North Fork Tattoo will be located at 240 1st Ave N. She currently does not have a website and asks that people reach out via Instagram with inquiries.
