Live 5 News team receives 16 RTDNAC awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCSC) - The Radio, Television, and Digital News Association of the Carolinas honored the Live 5 News team in Charlotte on Saturday morning. RTDNAC presented the Live 5 News team with 10 first-place and six second-place awards at the organization’s annual ceremony, which was held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. “Live 5 News This Morning” anchors Shelbey Roberts and Katie Kamin received the award for TV News Anchor Team of the Year. Live 5’s Emily Johnson was honored as TV News Investigative Reporter of the Year. The team also received the following first-place awards: General News: North Charleston Corruption Allegations - Emily Johnson, Michael Allison, Ann McGill, Caroline Spikes, Tiana Maxwell Investigative: Roofing Company Leaves Customers Out Thousands - Michal Higdon, Michael Allison News Website: Live5News.com - Patrick Phillips, Zachary Bordner, Marissa Thompson, PJ Williams, Colt Yeargin Political/Election Reporting: Live 5 News: Your Voice, Your Choice - Nick Reagan, Sam Yaw Education Reporting: Constituent Board Controversy - Emily Johnson, Caitlin Ashbaugh, Michael Allison Health/Medicine Reporting: Behind Closed Doors: Riverside Health & Rehab - Katie Kamin, Michael Allison Social Reform Reporting: Hate Crimes - Justin Kollar, Michael Allison News Special: Amazing Grace Remembering the Emanuel 9 - Thomas Gruel, Raphael James, Ann McGill, Sam Griswold Live 5 News won a second-place award for Best News Operation. Assistant News Director Thomas Gruel was recognized with a second-place honor for Best Special Projects Producer.
