MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI – The name of the 25-year-old journeyman lineman who died last week has been released. Jack Rantanen was prepping a jobsite just off a roadway near Marquette when he was fatally struck by a vehicle on Oct. 20, WBUP/WJMN reports. It happened on M-553 near Silver Creek Road in Sands Township. RELATED: Lineman, 25, was laying wire when he was fatally struck by a vehicle The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration released preliminary details about the fatal incident, which is the 36th Michigan worker death of 2025. Rantanen was “preparing a jobsite by placing wire for set up,” the description says. “The victim was chaining down a wire reel on a trailer connected to a digger truck about six feet off the road. A vehicle crossed the white edge line, struck the passenger side of a digger truck, and struck the victim at the back of the trailer.” The cause of the crash has not been released.
