Ben Talintyre November 10, 2025 - 8:15AM Share via Email Share on Facebook Share on Whatsapp Copied URL to clipboard Lewis Hamilton has labelled F1 stewards as a “complete joke” as he was forced to retire in what was a nightmare Brazil Grand Prix for the honorary Brazilian. It was a miserable afternoon for the seven-time world champion, who dropped down the order all the way down to 18th on the run to Turn 1 on the opening lap following contact with Carlos Sainz. An early safety car was called on lap two after Gabriel Bortoleto crashed again as he was squeezed by Lance Stroll and had nowhere to go except to hit the wall. Meanwhile, Hamilton was made to pit to get a new front wing, while Bortoleto’s car was still being cleared. However, the Ferrari driver’s day would soon get even worse, with Hamilton left frustrated and getting on the team radio after his car was sliding about in the wet conditions. “Mate, I’m going to crash out here. I’ll keep trying. The car is crazy unstable,” he said on his team radio. Lewis Hamilton had a weekend to forget in Brazil. The rear is dropping off big time.” If he wasn’t having a bad enough day, the F1 stewards then hit him with a five-second time penalty on lap 29 for that early collision with Colapinto in the opening lap. And the F1 champion, who also criticised the stewards after the Mexico City Grand Prix, unloaded on his team radio: “These guys are a joke. A complete joke.” “The car moved over on me so I clipped my wing.” Copied URL to clipboard His nightmare day was soon over on lap 40 as he retired from the race. Speaking to F1 TV after the race, Hamilton was at a loss for words at what he simply said was “a weekend to forget”. “I mean, jeez, this is definitely a weekend to forget. It’s a shame because I love Brazil and also, you know, just everyone in the team, every single person in the team, they turn up every week and give it their absolute best and to come away with nothing, to not finish a race the second time in the year, it’s really devastating and I feel terrible for the team,” he said. I just have to … We’ll get back up tomorrow and just give it another go.” Ferrari teammate Leclerc’s race also ended prematurely. Meanwhile, McLaren’s Lando Norris wrapped up what can only be described as a dream weekend for his title hopes with another win. After taking out the sprint race, Norris completed the double charging to another dominant victory in the main race. Lando Norris extended his lead at the top of the championship by 23 points.
