Letter: GOP must stop lies, get back to work

I’m puzzled when I read that some of our fellow islanders want to blame our fine Democratic representatives in Washington for the shutdown. Republicans currently control the House, Senate and White House. What happened to all the cries of “we were given a mandate from the American people to govern”? The House of Representatives has been closed for over a month. Speaker Mike Johnson must call them back from their vacation and get back to work. Despite making more than $170,000 annually, regardless of the shutdown, and with the best health care money can buy, they will not do right for the American people. That undocumented immigrants receive wide government health care like Medicare and Medicaid is misinformation and just plain lies. The Republican bill will absolutely blow up health care costs without renewal of the current subsidies. This is what Democrats are trying to preserve.
