Bengaluru-headquartered Narayana Health on Friday announced its entry into the UK healthcare market with the acquisition of Practice Plus Group Hospitals, pledging to extend affordable care.Practice Plus Group operates 12 hospitals and surgical centres in the UK, specialising in orthopaedics, ophthalmology and general surgery. It is the fifth largest private hospital group in the UK, performing about 80,000 surgeries a year.In the UK healthcare market, the demand for surgeries, especially in the private sector, is projected to grow significantly in the coming years, the company said. It added that the acquisition has moved the group to among the top three healthcare providers in India by revenue.Narayana Health founder Dr Devi Prasad Shetty termed the deal as an incredibly exciting step for his company. The two hospital chains recognised that many patients were struggling to access healthcare, while only a minority could afford costly private healthcare, he said.
