Late Night Gets to Brag About Election Day

It was a blue wave across America on Election Day. The Late Show, Late Night, The Daily Show, and The Tonight Show celebrated wins from democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani’s triumph over the Trump-endorsed Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayoral race, in addition to Democrats Virginia governor-elect Abigail Spanberger and New Jersey governor-elect Mikie Sherill. On the back of President Donald Trump declaring war on late night, Jordan Klepper, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, and even Jimmy Fallon took the opportunity to call Trump a loser, celebrate Mamdani’s new policies, and, for the first time in a while, feel “good.” The Late Show With Stephen Colbert “Tonight my heart is full of something I have not felt in almost a year,” Stephen Colbert said at the top of his monologue. “And that is… ‘good.’” He congratulated Mamdani, promising him that “in New York mayoral tradition, you will now get unlimited flights on Turkish Air and the right to murder one groundhog.” He also congratulated Sherrill and Spanberger while also getting some punches in on Sherrill’s New Jersey, theorizing that the state motto is “$20 of unleaded please.” Hey, he may like the results, but he’s still a New Yorker. Jimmy Kimmel Live! Jimmy Kimmel, who faced off against the Trump administration earlier this year when Trump’s FCC chair Brendan Carr called for his show to be taken off the airwaves, was thrilled by the election results. He was particularly excited because Democrats have lost this year “more than the New York Jets.” Finally, he got a chance to belittle Trump using Trump’s favorite word: Loser. “Everything he touched was a loser,” Kimmel crowed. “Trump hasn’t been this embarrassed since he found out there was a Donald Trump Jr.” The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon “Let’s just say for Trump, it was a huge kick in the ballroom,” Fallon said, referencing Trump’s plan to build in the ruins of the White House’s East Wing. With a Millennial mayor of New York City on the way, Fallon pulled from the ol’ generational comedy playbook. “His first order of business is making sure every renter gets an affordable home,” Fallon said, “And every restaurant gets avocado toast.” Late Night With Seth Meyers Seth Meyers used Wednesday’s “A Closer Look” to do a victory lap — not just for Mamdani, but Prop 50 in California, and even the Georgia State Utility Commission, which “sounds like an excuse an exhausted dad would make just to get out of the house.” Meyers compared Trump’s post-beatdown, November 5 press conference to the ever-losing Jets. And he used the death of his own beloved dog Frisbee as a reason why the audience was wrong to groan at his “Kristi Noem kills dogs” joke. Free speech is still free in Mamdani’s New York. The Daily Show With Jon Stewart hosting on Mondays, Wednesday night’s honor went to comedian Jordan Klepper. “Not only are [Democrats] alive, they are coked up like Don Jr. at a crypto convention,” he declard. Can’t say that on network TV, baby! Klepper went on make fun of people who claimed they would leave New York if Mamdani won. “You’re telling me nine percent of apartments are about to become available?” he asked. “Holy shit. That would be the fastest a mayor has ever delivered on a campaign promise.”
