Lane Kiffin Has Warning for Ole Miss Amid Florida Rumors

No. 6 Ole Miss is getting set to host 3-6 Florida on Saturday. More News: College Football Playoff Contender Has Heartbreaking Loss on Friday Night Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin has been linked to the Gators in recent weeks after Florida fired Billy Napier on Oct. 19. Kiffin earned an automatic one-year extension with Ole Miss after defeating then-No. 13 Oklahoma on Oct. 25. However, he has yet to sign deals that have been offered by the program for more money, leaving open the possibility he could leave the Rebels for a job like Florida or LSU before 2026. He argued that how a program funds NIL is more important than facilities in the modern era. “People used to say facilities,” Kiffin said, via Sam Hutchens of the Mississippi Clarion Ledger. “Practice field. Those things. I think that’s changed, and it’s going to change. “It’s going to be, ‘How much NIL do you have? How is your collective? How is it run? How much do you have?'” While smaller programs can occasionally make the College Football Playoff, Kiffin likened college athletics to the MLB. Programs with deeper pockets will continue to enjoy consistency in the sport. Kiffin provided another warning to Ole Miss before playing Florida about what he wants to see from the fan base. He suggested that there needs to be a strong atmosphere at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to aid in recruitment, citing tradition as a pull for recruits. “Kids are still recruited,” Kiffin said. “They see sizes of stadiums and traditions and Heismans and national championships and location to talent. All those are in there.” As Hutchens pointed out on Saturday, the student section had a poor showing for the Rebels’ 49-0 win over The Citadel. More fans should be in attendance for the Week 12 game against Florida. It could play a factor in whether Kiffin thinks he can make Ole Miss a consistent winner in the SEC.
