KMC new initiative to keep city clean

To bring accountability and ensure cleanliness in the city, the Kurnool Municipal Corporation has started displaying the names and contact numbers of the sanitation supervisor and sanitation inspector on the streets for the people to directly call and inform them about unhygienic conditions in the city. The KMC, which had taken up several initiatives to maintain cleanliness in the city, had come up with this new approach to make the citizens part of their efforts to keep their environs and the city clean. This would also make the sanitary wing function more effectively. As part of this, wall paintings have been made on streets with the contact numbers of the public health workers who looks after clearing the garbage. If any worker doesn’t respond, a citizen can directly call the sanitation secretary, according to officials. The painting will also have the details of the houses from which a particular public health worker clears the garbage, and the day on which the drains will be cleaned. KMC Commissioner P. Viswanatha said keeping the city clean can be achieved only with the participation of the citizens. “People should also keep their surroundings clean and give garbage to the sanitation workers who come at their doorstep,” he said. He said they are going ahead with the slogan of ‘clean, neat and healthy’ city and urged the citizens to use the new initiative.
