Kings’ Shops at Waikoloa Beach Resort undergoing renovations

Kings’ Shops at Waikoloa Beach Resort began a multi-phase renovation in July, with work expected to be completed by winter 2025. The project includes updates to common areas, landscaping and restrooms, with the shopping center remaining open throughout construction. Opened in 1991, Kings’ Shops has served as a commercial and social hub on the Kohala Coast, combining local culture with a mix of international and island-based retailers. General Manager Lynn Rostau said the renovation represents a long-term investment in both Hawaii island’s visitor economy and the surrounding community. While financial details were not disclosed, she said the improvements are intended to reinforce Kings’ Shops’ position as a destination for residents and visitors. “The enhancements will introduce elevated gathering spaces, lush landscaping that celebrates the natural beauty of Hawaii island, and modernized restrooms designed for comfort and convenience,” Rostau said. The renovation is being conducted in phases to allow progress while maintaining access to stores and restaurants. According to Rostau, community feedback has been positive, with many supporting the effort to improve both comfort and aesthetics. Kings’ Shops includes the island’s only Tiffany &Co. store and tenants such as Roy’s, Tori Richard, Kahala, lululemon, TravisMathew and CocoNene. Several businesses also are updating their individual spaces, including CocoNene, which plans to expand, and Tori Richard, which has begun its own renovation. Cultural programming remains a part of the center’s offerings, with events such as lei making, hula lessons, and Polynesian drum sessions continuing on a weekly basis. Rostau said special anniversary events planned for 2026 will highlight these traditions as part of the center’s 35th year.
