In a recent interview, Kareena Kapoor spoke candidly about how she has always been a Punjabi Kudi who loves her parathas with the extra love of butter and so the pressure of being zero size or skinny was not something she came into the industry with. She says “I was slightly chubby and I was always like that, even in my first film, because I was very clear that I love my parathas. I’m a proper Punjabi kudi!” So, she solely focused on her career in the industry based on talent and the kind of roles she wanted to do along with the stories that intrigued her. Kareena adds to the conversation saying, “I want to sell my talent, I'm not here for anything else,” as she takes pride in her chubby phase. Kareena Kapoor has also been an advocate for fitness and health as speaks about the importance of building muscle (especially for women), strength training and posts quite candidly, about her fitness routine and the diet she follows, on social media platforms like Instagram. Her focus, when it comes to fitness and diet, explicitly focuses on what it sounds like – being fit and consuming healthy, nutritious foods. She has always been at the forefront of rejecting any fad diets and not going along any tedious workout plan. Her focus is clear – to make fitness fun and to do it as a maintenance activity. But as she goes along to answer the question, Kareena accepts that the industry is not always as kind as it seems. She says, “Then the pressure started coming in when people used to say that she’s very good in front of the camera but will she look good in glamorous roles, and that made me think.” And eventually she did what had to be done, and the world of Bollywood witnessed it in her performances. Kareena is popularly known to have achieved a ‘size zero’ figure for the 2008 film ‘Tashan.’ She is said to have gone through a drastic weight loss process that was achieved through hard work of a year and a half where she followed a strict meal plan and yoga sessions for her role as a superfit character in the action movie. After Tashan, she reverted to a healthier, fuller figure for subsequent roles and has since commented that she does not feel the need to achieve a ‘size zero’ figure again.
