The Department for Work has issued a "work" update for people with SEVEN conditions and disabilities. Access to Work can help you get or stay in work if you have a physical or mental health condition or disability. The support you get will depend on your needs. Through Access to Work, you can apply for a grant to help pay for practical support with your work, or support with managing your mental health at work, or money to pay for communication support at job interviews. Claimants must have a 'physical or mental health condition or disability that means you need support to do your job or get to and from work'. The DWP says claimants must have a physical or mental health condition or disability that means you need support to do your job or get to and from work - and be 16 or over. Claimants must also be in paid work (or be about to start or return to paid work in the next 12 weeks) and you must live and work (or be about to start or return to work) in England, Scotland or Wales. You need to have a paid job (or be about to start or return to one). A paid job can be full or part-time and can include employment, self-employment, an apprenticeship and a work trial or work experience. You need to have had an internship, or a work placement. You cannot get Access to Work support for voluntary work. You can still apply for Access to Work if you’re working from home some or all of the time. You can claim money from your grant online or by post. To claim money from your grant online, you’ll need to create an account, the benefits department has said. The welfare department's data says there are currently 62,000 Access to Work applications still waiting for decisions and another 33,000 people stuck with unpaid claims. The DWP is consulting with disabled peoples organisations on the future of Access to Work and starting to look at the Green paper consultation responses.
