In a recent episode of The Basement Yard, Frank Alvarez mentioned wanting to win an Emmy Award one day. He presented the idea as a pipedream to co-host Joe Santagato. While an Emmy nomination for their podcast won’t be in the cards anytime soon (the awards ceremony doesn’t offer the category), they did take home a pretty big win recently. Joe Santagato, who launched The Basement Yard in his mother’s actual basement in 2015, and Frank Alvarez, who joined as a co-host in 2020, have been named the sexiest podcasters alive for 2025. ‘The Basement Yard’ hosts are the sexiest podcasters, according to readers Joe Santagato and Frank Alvarez have been named the sexiest podcasters alive by People. The honor is part of the outlet’s Reader’s Choice Poll, which runs around the same time as the publication’s famed “Sexiest Man Alive” issue. Santagato and Alvarez beat out some notable names in the podcasting space to secure the win. Also nominated were Las Culturistas hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, Nick Vaill of The Vaill Files, and trio Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone & Akiva Schaffer, from The Lonely Island Podcast. COO and Tour Producer, Greg Dybec, shared Santagato and Alvarez’s reaction to the news on his own Instagram page as well as the Basement Yard’s Instagram account. In a FaceTime meeting, Dybec dropped the news, with both Alvarez and Santagato appearing shocked that their viewers had flooded the polls enough to secure the win. Santagato quipped that, from now on, absolutely everything was going to be about him. The cohosts only have a few days to celebrate the honor, though. They have something even bigger on the horizon. Their live tour is set to conclude on November 13 at Madison Square Garden. The show is sold out. Before concluding the tour at MSG, they’ll also host a show at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston on November 6. That show is also sold out. The podcasting pair joins brothers Jason and Travis Kelce as sexy podcasters People only began polling readers for the category last year. In 2014, the award went to Travis and Jason Kelce for their work on New Heights. For the inaugural year, the brothers beat out the likes of T.J. Holmes, Penn Badgley, and Josh Peck, all of whom host wildly popular podcasts. Badley cohosts Podcrushed with Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari. The trio delves into middle school experiences. Josh Peck hosts Good Guys with Ben Soffer. The weekly show features celebrity guests discussing everyday events in a relaxed and low-stress environment. Holmes cohosts Amy & TJ with Amy Robach. The duo, who just announced their engagement, discuss current events and entertainment news on their weekly podcast. None of last year’s nominees were in the final voting round this time around.
