Jey Uso will face CM Punk for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night's Main Event. WWE is celebrating Groundhog’s Day with Jey Uso. The former world champion is among WWE’s most popular stars in real life, but reaction to his main event success has been polarizing online to say the least. Uso won the Over the Top Battle Royal this past Monday on Raw after incumbent champion Seth Rollins was forced to vacate the title due to a real-life shoulder injury. Jey last eliminated his own brother Jimmy, but it was his simultaneous elimination of cult hero LA Knight that has sparked the ire of WWE’s social media fanbase. As of this writing, WWE’s clip of Jey Uso winning Raw’s Over the Top Battle Royal has 13,000 likes against 64,000 dislikes. A similar video on the “WWE on Netflix” YouTube channel has a better ratio, albeit with just 10,000 likes against 5,100 dislikes. Jey Uso’s WWE Raw Win Sparks Backlash In YouTube Comments Accusations of nepotism combined with a growing pro-LA Knight contingent have conspired to create another internet controversy directed at Jey Uso. Uso dealt with similar backlash earlier this year after his surprise Royal Rumble win when he eliminated John Cena at the beginning of the legend’s retirement tour. Jey: I’m family with The Rock and Roman. 3H: Yeah, those are enough strengths.” Jey Uso’s Response To Social Media Backlash “Nah, man,” said Jey during an exclusive interview while discussing if online hate ever gets to him. “If you just get out of the house. If you just get out from behind your iPhone, your iPad, your computer screen, right? And you come out the house, and you let the sun hit you on the face a little bit sometimes, Uce. Breathe in some fresh air, you know what I’m saying? Come on down to where your arena’s at one time, if WWE’s ever in the building." Jey Uso’s setbacks, en route to competing for his first world title at a WrestleMania 41, was one of the main storylines of WWE Unreal. “I had a conversation with [Jey] to say ‘this is everything you’ve ever wanted,’" said Triple H during a creative meeting. “This is a different level of success for you. But it can all go away in the blink of an eye because you get complacent. You can’t be wheezing after your entrance because you’re too blown up to get up to do your shit.” While WWE Unreal represents a sanitized version of WWE’s backstage environment, many stories that made the Netflix docuseries were based on real-life rumor and innuendo. Unfortunately, Triple H’s words proved prophetic. Just one month after Jey’s feel-good win over Gunther, Gunther regained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Jey on the June 9 broadcast of Raw. Jey Uso is one win away from his second title reign. Jey won the Over the Top Rope Battle Royal with help from Jimmy Uso, who saved him two times. Not only did Jey not return the favor, he eliminated his twin brother. With a scorned Jimmy Uso lurking in the background, it’s more than likely that Jey’s twin gets his receipt at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Should CM Punk prevail with Jimmy Uso’s help, at least for one night, a dark corner of the internet will get its wish.
