As political activities gather momentum ahead of the November 8 Anambra governorship election, the Indigenous People of Biafra Political Wing (IPOB-PW) has thrown its weight behind Governor Chukwuma Soludo, urging the people of the state to support his re-election bid for continuity and consolidation. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the group said its decision followed “a broad assessment of candidates and their plans for the state,” noting that Soludo’s administration had demonstrated “commitment to security, citizens’ welfare, and prudent management of Anambra’s economy.” According to the group, the move aligns with the ideals of the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who, before his death, emphasized political participation as a viable path to advancing the aspirations of the Igbo people. “Before the father of Biafra died, he founded a political party as a springboard for Ndigbo’s political expression. ” He believed engagement, not isolation, was the route to achieving dignity and self-determination. IPOB-PW is returning to that ideology,” the statement read. The group acknowledged that although it was unable to field a candidate in the forthcoming election, it resolved to take a stand “in the collective interest of the people.” “After assessing the candidates, we unanimously agreed that Professor Chukwuma Soludo deserves a second tenure to complete his reforms. “He has stabilized the state, improved internal revenue generation without over-reliance on borrowings, and taken bold steps to tackle insecurity,” the group said. IPOB-PW further claimed that it had reached out to other regional organisations to mobilize support for Soludo, expressing confidence that his re-election would “further consolidate peace and development in the state.” The group concluded by calling on “all Igbo sons and daughters” to participate actively in the coming election, saying the vote represents “a choice between progress and uncertainty.”
