In a shocking turn of events, Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez was reportedly involved in a tragic road accident on Tuesday morning that resulted in the death of an 81-year-old man. According to La Repubblica, the incident occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. on Via Bergamo in Fenegro, near Inter’s training base at Appiano Gentile. Reports suggest the elderly man, who was travelling on an electric wheelchair, was struck by Martinez’s vehicle as the goalkeeper made his way to training. Despite immediate medical attention from emergency services, including a helicopter rescue team and ambulance, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Early investigations indicate that the man may have suffered a sudden health episode, which prevented him from moving out of the roadway before the collision. Martinez, 27, reportedly stopped immediately to assist and remained at the scene while authorities conducted their investigation. In light of the tragedy, Inter Milan cancelled a scheduled press conference with manager Cristian Chivu. Martinez joined Inter from Genoa in 2024 and has made two Serie A appearances this season, against Cagliari and Sassuolo. He was expected to be part of the squad for this weekend’s fixture against Fiorentina.
