SINGAPORE – A Singapore court has sentenced an Indian-origin nurse to 14 months in prison and caning after she was found guilty of sexually harassing a patient’s attendant at Raffles Hospital earlier this year. According to international media reports, the incident occurred on June 18, 2025, when 34-year-old nurse Alep Shiva Nago allegedly lured a young male attendant accompanying his elderly grandfather into a hospital washroom under the pretext of using a disinfectant spray. Once inside, the nurse engaged in inappropriate physical contact, leaving the attendant shocked. The victim immediately informed his grandfather, who then lodged a complaint with the hospital administration. The matter was soon reported to the police. Authorities arrested the nurse two days later, and Raffles Hospital terminated her employment following an internal review. During court proceedings, the prosecution argued that the act not only traumatized the victim but also damaged the hospital’s professional environment, calling for a strict sentence to deter similar misconduct in the healthcare sector. The court found the nurse guilty and imposed a 14-month imprisonment along with corporal punishment.
