Japanese automobile firm Honda has unveiled its upcoming electric four-wheeler, Honda 0 α (alpha) and is planning to make India a global manufacturing hub. The prototype of the car was unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show, with an Indian debut expected in the next financial year 2026-27. The car has been specifically developed for the Indian and Japanese markets. The production model of the Honda 0 α is scheduled to go on sales globally, mainly in Japan and India, starting in 2027. Honda Cars India MD and CEO Takashi Nakajima said that India ranks among the top three global markets for the company in terms of corporate focus and future investments. Speaking on the eve of Honda’s new car unveiling at the Japan Mobility Show, Nakajima said, “Our top management has identified India as one of the three key markets driving Honda’s future growth, alongside the U.S. and Japan.” He added that while Honda’s current business scale in India remains smaller compared to its U.S. and Japanese operations, the company’s long-term ambitions for the Indian market are significant. With Honda 0 α (alpha), the automaker is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality and zero traffic collision fatalities worldwide by 2050. Honda 0 α (alpha) is expected to be manfuactured at Honda’s plant in Alwar, Rajasthan. Honda also launched other electric prototypes, including a green saloon. Following the Honda 0 Saloon and the Honda 0 SUV, introduced at CES 2025 in January of this year, the Honda 0 α will be added to the lineup as a “gateway model” for the world of Honda 0 Series, featuring a refined design and a spacious cabin that offers outstanding occupant comfort. Honda 0 a (alpha) Features The exterior design features both a sleek and sophisticated body design unique to Honda 0 Series and the original proportion of an SUV. There are screen areas in both the front and rear ends of the vehicle. At the front, components that are conventionally separated — such as the headlights, charging lid and illuminated emblem — are integrated into the screen area. At the rear, the U-shaped lighting that combines the tail lamps, backup lamps and turn signal lamps, accentuates the contour of the rear screen area, achieving a design that is visually and functionally refined.
