IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall in Bengaluru and nearby districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall for Bengaluru and adjoining districts over the next few days, bringing much-needed respite to residents after weeks of fluctuating temperatures and dry weather. The upcoming spell is expected to improve air quality and offer cooler evenings across the region. Rainfall likely across South Interior Karnataka According to IMD’s latest weather bulletin, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapur, and Kolar districts are likely to receive light showers accompanied by cloudy skies and mild winds. The rainfall activity is being attributed to moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea interacting with local weather systems over South Interior Karnataka. Meteorologists said this weak system could sustain rainfall activity in the region for the next two to three days. “A trough extending across southern peninsular India is enhancing cloud formation and precipitation over the area,” an IMD scientist said. Pleasant weather ahead The IMD forecast indicates that Bengaluru’s maximum temperature will hover around 28°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to stay near 18°C, creating pleasant and comfortable conditions. Occasional thunderstorms may occur, particularly during late afternoons and evenings, the department added. Residents have been advised to keep umbrellas handy and avoid unnecessary travel during evening hours, as short but intense showers could cause minor waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying neighbourhoods. Relief from recent hot and humid days The spell of rain comes as a relief for the city after several days of warm and humid conditions. Over the past week, Bengaluru recorded daytime temperatures nearing 31°C, with dry air and minimal wind movement contributing to discomfort. With the arrival of moisture from the Arabian Sea, the city is expected to experience improved air quality, cleaner surroundings, and relatively cooler evenings — conditions that are likely to continue through the weekend. Safety advisory for residents Authorities have urged residents to take basic precautions during the wet spell. Avoid venturing outdoors during heavy rain or lightning activity. Secure outdoor items such as furniture, tarpaulins, and roofing sheets. Ensure doors and windows are properly shut to prevent leaks. Keep phones charged and have flashlights and drinking water ready in case of temporary power cuts. Broader regional outlook The IMD also forecast light rainfall in parts of Mysuru, Mandya, and Tumakuru, with cloud cover expected to persist across most of southern Karnataka. Meanwhile, northern parts of the state are likely to remain dry. Meteorologists said rainfall activity could gradually weaken early next week as the trough dissipates, giving way to partly cloudy skies and stable temperatures.
