ICC Women's World Cup 2025: How Can India Book Last Semi-Final Spot?

Team India, after winning their first two games in the ongoing Women’s World Cup, have lost three consecutive matches and now face a crucial challenge to secure a semifinal spot. With Australia, South Africa, and England already assured of places in the top four, India and New Zealand are the main contenders for the final spot as they prepare for a decisive match against each other. How India Can Qualify For ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Semis? A victory against the White Ferns on Thursday will guarantee India’s place in the semifinal, but a loss would complicate their chances, requiring them to depend on other results. If India lose to the Sophie Devine-led side, they must defeat Bangladesh in their final group-stage match on Sunday and hope New Zealand lose their last group game against England. In such a scenario, India and New Zealand will both finish with six points, and their qualification will depend on their Net Run Rate (NRR). Harmanpreet Kaur and her team are currently tied with New Zealand on four points but are ranked higher due to a superior NRR. If the India vs New Zealand match is washed out, it will benefit India even if they lose to Bangladesh. However, this is subject to certain conditions: England must beat New Zealand, and Sri Lanka and Pakistan must not reach six points. India’s matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh are both scheduled to take place at the same venue in Navi Mumbai. If both matches are washed out, India will advance to the semifinal. However, England needs to beat the Kiwis or their match must also be washed out. In this scenario, India will end up with six points, earning a point each from the washed-out games. Additionally, if Sri Lanka or Pakistan finish with six points, India will progress to the semifinal due to a higher NRR. India and New Zealand will face each other on Thursday at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. (With inputs from IANS)
