"I Didn't Expect South Korea To Supersize Things": I Tried McDonald's In Seoul — Here Are My Honest Thoughts Is it better than in the States? Honestly, the answer might be yes. But I have to say, for this one thing, the US does it better. Hi! I'm Haein, a Korean-American lifestyle writer who harbors a deep curiosity for food and culture. I recently landed in Seoul, South Korea, and amongst the many eats I want to cross off my list, here is a pretty ubiquitous and familiar fast-food place: McDonald’s! They're kinda like Coca-Cola. Wherever you go in the world, you'll most likely find those golden arches. Naturally, I couldn't help but wonder how McDonald's in South Korea would compare to the version in the States. So, I went to go find out. What did I think about South Korea's McDonald's? Here we go: What I quickly found surprising was just how much nicer the McDonald’s was compared to the ones back in the States. This location was two stories and had quite the view. I put in my order through these little kiosks, even though there was the option of ordering at the counter. I was also able to translate the menu into English. Scrolling through the menu, I was surprised to find a lot of familiar options, but amplified. Like the Double Big Mac, or Korea's version of the Hot 'n Spicy McChicken, the Double McSpicy Shanghai Burger. I didn't expect South Korea to supersize things if I'm being quite honest. After spotting that ginormous Big Mac, I decided to go for it. I love a good ol' Big Mac every once in a while, so why not? Apparently, they also have it in the States, but for some reason, I don't think I would ever get it back home, so this was the time for me to do so. I added a McSpicy Shanghai Burger, plus a Bulgogi Burger — because the one I tried in the States at Lotteria USA (kind of like South Korea's McDonald's) was really good! I added fries, chicken nuggets, and a pretty unique offering here, a pair of mozzarella sticks! For all that, two iced colas, and a Cajun sauce, the total was ₩29,300 (roughly $20.38). We'll start with the starters: For sauce, I went with the Cajun one. There were only three sauces available — a Sweet Chili, Sweet & Sour, and this one. It was good! A slight Cajun kick, but mostly reminded me of the Chick-fil-A sauce. As for the burgers, I started with the McSpicy Shanghai Burger. Next, I had the Bulgogi burger. Then finally, it was time for the Double Big Mac. Then, realizing, I was leaving out a pretty unique Korean McDonald's item, I decided to add KFC: Korean Fried Chicken AKA McWings. I mean, Korea is known for their delicious fried chicken, so I had to try it! Lastly, for dessert, I treated myself to a Strawberry Oreo McFlurry! My honest thoughts: Was the McDonald's here better than in the US? Quality and taste-wise, I have to say yes. But not everything was better. Does this make you curious to try out a Korean McDonald's?
